Howdy.

I am Joe. Born to Texans in Mississippi, I've spent the majority of my life on the Gulf Coast, somewhere between New Orleans and Mobile.

I started blogging in 2004 as a way to document my seminary experience in New Orleans. Now I write about faith, education, politics, and their convergence in our lives. My wife and I are walking through the adoption process, so that’s bound to come up, too.

Adoption Update II

Adoption Update II

Our home study is almost done now, and we’ve just got a few more things to get in before it’s fully complete. At this point, we’re ramping up our fundraising, since we have some major fees due soon. Shelley has been selling earrings like a champ, and we may start selling some of those online through this site. In the meantime though, we’re selling t-shirts through Fund the Nations. We only have a couple weeks left, so order now!

Over the last few weeks I’ve learned how to set up a donation button and commerce on this site, how to customize a Big Cartel store, and looked into about a half dozen other commerce utilities. It’s been both enlightening and exciting to learn new things. Maybe we’ll get to use some of them one day.

Because the home study is almost complete, we’re applying for grants and looking at the next big step - creating a profile book. There are some amazing folks out there who do those, so we’re debating whether to go through them or to self-publish so we can save some money. If you’ve been through this process and have some advice, we’re all ears.

Once the home study is complete and the profile books are done, we wait. We’ll keep busy enough as we continue to raise funds to cover the full cost of the adoption, and obviously our new pup is taking up some time. More on her another time. Well, that’s our update.
